What is Piemontese

  The term "Piemontese" encapsulates the diverse population of individuals who trace their origins to Piedmont, including notable towns like Alba and Zubiena. It represents a shared heritage, encompassing a deep appreciation for local traditions, culinary delights, craftsmanship, and the timeless beauty of the Piedmontese landscape. The Piemontese people carry with them a sense of pride in their regional identity, fostering a strong connection to their roots and contributing to the vibrant cultural mosaic of Italy. 


 Alba, situated in the heart of the Langhe region, is renowned for its picturesque vineyards, truffles, and culinary delights. The people of Alba carry a deep appreciation for gastronomy, embodying the essence of Piemontese cuisine and wine production. Their expertise in crafting exceptional wines and indulgent dishes has earned Alba a reputation as a culinary hub within Italy. 


 Zubiena, on the other hand, is a charming town nestled amidst the verdant hills of Biella Province. Its tranquil beauty and rich textile heritage contribute to the cultural fabric of the Piemontese identity. The people of Zubiena, like many Piemontese, often possess a strong work ethic, as their region has historically been associated with industries such as textiles and manufacturing. 

Gaetano "Angelo" Pietro Baietto

 Gaetano "Angelo" Pietro Baietto, a man of resilience and ambition, embarked on a life-changing voyage from the picturesque town of Zubiena, Italy, to the United States of America in 1907.  

S.S Luisiana: 1906-1917

  On board the SS Luisiana, Angelo braved the vast expanse of the ocean, surrounded by fellow immigrants seeking similar aspirations. The journey was not without its challenges, as the ship sailed through uncertain waters and weathered the trials of a transoceanic crossing. However, Angelo's determination propelled him forward, fueling his resolve to make the most of the opportunity that awaited him in the New World. 


The Lloyd Italiano liner commenced Genoa-New York service April 1906. She also served in Italy-South America trade: She made her final voyage to New York in 1913.  In February 1917, while on voyage from Buenos Aires to Genoa, she sank near Almeria.
